In January, the TALLL lab had the opportunity to communicate the findings from the Indigenous project at the International Conference on Education (IICE) organized and hosted by the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. The conference occurred from 3-7, 2024, and was hosted at the Hawai’i Convention Center.

We made three presentations during the conference:

  • On Friday January 5th, Dr. Li presented A Culturally Responsive Approach to Enhancing Academic Vocabulary Acquisition for Indigenous Adolescents: From Personal Narrative to Academic Discourse to a packed room and fielded several dynamic and engaging questions from audience members.
  • On Saturday, January 6th, Matthew McGravey and Dr. Li presented their findings on Critical Issues in Indigenous Educational Leadership: Principals’ Perspectives in a session looking critically at leadership in education. Audience engagement and reception was warm and welcoming, with several discussions started with the team by audience members.
  • TALLL member Novera Roihan presented the findings virtually in a pre-recorded presentation with Lived Experience: Teachers Serving First Nation School Communities.

The project is funded by the Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Canada. We would like to thank all of those involved in the project. The research results will be further communicated through peer-reviewed journal articles.
